Current focus

Research direction

From scientific knowledge to more health-conscious architecture.

Natalia works at the intersection of medicine, neuroscience and the built environment, translating knowledge about human health and behaviour into design research and practice.

Her work is grounded in systems thinking, examining how biological, cognitive and environmental factors interact to shape human health, behaviour and performance.

Her work spans research, education and applied implementation, drawing on neuroscience, physiology, environmental sciences and clinical insight. Her current research examines how health can be made explicit in architectural decision-making, including the role of environmental exposure, physiological regulation and adaptation over time. This direction is developed in her 2026 paper in Buildings, co-authored with Karolina M. Zielinska-Dabkowska.

As co-founder and Chief Science Officer of IMPRONTA, she leads the scientific direction of research, advisory work and emerging tools that explore how biological knowledge can inform design parameters.

Current objective

To help move health in the built environment from discourse towards method—from concept towards an operational system.

Education

Medicine & Neuroscience

Natalia trained as a physician in Poland and Italy at Jagiellonian University and Tor Vergata University of Rome, including a clinical placement at Massachusetts General Hospital, a teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School. She subsequently completed a Dual Master’s degree in Brain and Mind Sciences at University College London and Sorbonne University, with neuroscience research placements at the Collège de France and the University of Helsinki.

She later completed the postgraduate programme Neuroscience Applied to Architectural Design at IUAV University of Venice, becoming the first Polish professional formally trained at this intersection.

Clinical practice

More than a decade in medicine

Natalia practised medicine in hospital settings from 2007, primarily in the United Kingdom. Following a period of postgraduate neuroscience study, she returned to clinical practice and continued working in medicine until 2020. Her clinical experience continues to shape how she understands health, human variability, risk and the cumulative effects of environmental conditions.

Applied research

Human Metrics Lab · HUME

Natalia led the Human Metrics Lab within HUME, the architectural studio founded by Itai Palti, operating at the interface of human sciences and architectural practice.

During this period, she collaborated on projects and research initiatives involving EDGE, Landsec, R&D for the Built Environment at Google, the Association of Children’s Museums and HKS Architects, among others.

Co-founder of the Venetian Letter, an independent editorial platform exploring the intersection of human sciences and architecture through essays and interviews with international thought-leaders.
